As you may know, Portugal is a meat-eating country. When you only eat vegetarian or vegan food, it can be quite challenging to find the right place to eat. Luckily, Ericeira has a lot to offer to vegetarians/vegans, and that is why we have made this list of the 5 best places for vegetarian and vegan food in Ericeira.
1. SUNSET BAMBOO BAR
Sunset Bamboo Bar in Ericeira has it all: good food, service, interior and location, everything is great. They serve açai bowls, smoothie bowls, (big) salads, fresh juices, smoothies, burrito’s; all have vegetarian options and some vegan. The food is served on colorful plates and together with a fresh fruit juice, you just can’t help but feel happy. They have a terrace where you can enjoy the sun, but inside it’s cozy and tropical as well.
For diner you go to Funky Restaurante. According to many people this is the best restaurant in Ericeira, as it’s on number 1 on Tripadvisor. At Funky you can expect different types of food, but all with a Portuguese touch. The staff is super friendly, and the menu states for every meal whether it’s vegetarian/vegan. www.funky.pt
3. NALU BOWLS
After gaining popularity with their first locations in Bali, Nalu Bowls now also opened a little bar at Praia do Sul in Ericeira. Their smoothie bowls are delicious, colorful, healthy and completely vegan. All bowls are named after famous surf breaks around the world, such as Pipeline, Uluwatu and Coxos. The little terrace is sunny and very photogenic. www.nalubowls.com
4. BARBATANA SURF&DELI
Situated right on Foz do Lizandro Beach, this is the place to be for some healthy food while enjoying the view. Their amazing pancakes with fresh and seasonal fruits are just what you need after a long surf session. It’s your typical beach bar, with a great vibe and good food. Enough options for both vegetarians and vegans: burgers, smoothies, juices and salads.
5. ORGANIK BURGER ART BAR
Not in Ericeira, but in Torres Vedras, a 30 minute drive to the north east. Worth the drive, because here they serve the best vegetarian and vegan burgers in the entire area. Start with a beet hummus and try their biological chickpea burger with an Indian touch, or the ‘Creamy Black’ burger, with black beans and caramelized onion. The burgers are served on a bread made by beets or a sweet patato/corn bread. Also a lot of gluten free options. The service is great here, they love to tell you all about the burgers and the best drinks to go with them. www.organik.pt
