Matadouro is a consistent reefbreak suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers.

Works best with

Wind from the east and swell from the west. Right before or after high tide it's best for intermediate surfers.

Crowd

Matadouro is less crowded than Ribeira D'Ilhas, but can be pretty busy with lessons.

Information & board rental

Matadouro is the perfect beginners wave with low tide, and that is where our surf lessons will be taught. The good news is that it’s only a 10 minute walk from Olá Onda Guesthouse. For the most part the ground is flat reef rock, but there are some rocks you need to watch out for. Ask another surfer for some advice before you go in, our check out the spot first at low tide. Ericeira Surf Riders has a trailer here every day in summer, and you can rent a board there and take surf lessons. There is parking space, but not much.
