Big swell, mostly in October to March.

Crowd

Never crowded, except when the waves are bigger dan 15 meters, and the crowd mostly consists of jetski's.

North of Nazaré is the famous Praia do Norte, where the biggest waves in the world are surfed. Because of a very deep underwater canyon, that ends right at the lighthouse on the cliffs, the waves tend to get 5 times bigger than anywhere else. Definitely worth a visit, especially in the winter. In summertime the town of Nazaré is also nice to visit, and the beach south of the lighthouse is nice for sunbathing. There is a big boulevard with many restaurants and shops.
