Type

Santa Cruz is a beachbreak. There are almost no sheltered areas, so very exposed to wind and swell. Breaks both left and right.

Works best with

Wind from the east, between low- and mid tide, but depending on the sandbanks it can work until high tide.

Crowd

Can be busy in July and August, but the other 10 months of the year you are likely to find just a couple of local surfers in the water.

Information & board rental

Santa Cruz has several nice beach bars and cafés, and there is a big parking lot. Go to Manel Surf shop in town or Noah Surfschool at Praia da Fisica for surf lessons or board rental.
